Marina High in Huntington Beach and Glendora High Junior and Senior Classes Both Invited To Teen Safe Driving Night at Toyota Speedway June 12 Event Will Stress Smart Driving
Release Date: 6/12/2010

Irwindale, Calif. - - (June 10, 2010) Toyota Speedway GM/VP Bob De Fazio has reached out to the Senior classes of two area high schools with an offer of free admission to Saturday’s Teen Safe Driving Night at the track.

"Marina and Glendora High have both experienced terribly unfortunate events that centered around teen driving. We’ve invited the all of the youngsters in the junior and senior classes of both schools to join us at the Speedway this Saturday night. Here they’ll to be able to talk to representatives from the Auto Club, The California Highway Patrol, and the track’s own onsite Advanced Driving Dynamics group."

There won’t be any lectures, or boring films, but there will be plenty of good advice and interchange on truly smart driving that all young drivers should be aware of.

"Our program really asks these highly-intelligent kids to just think a bit more seriously about driving. In the case of Marina and Glendora High Schools, they’ve both seen the awful consequences in very personal terms. We want them to leave here on Saturday night not only as better-informed young drivers but as advocates to their fellow students as for smarter/safer driving."

"What we’re really saying leave all the dangerous stuff to our professional NASCAR drivers here at the track," said track General Manager Bob DeFazio.

Gates at the Speedway open at 4PM and representatives of the Auto Club of Southern California, the California Highway Patrol, as well as the Toyota-supported Advanced Driving Dynamics group, will all be on site with information and active driving programs to talk to young drivers about driving smart. "We are very serious about this night, there are far too many heartbreaking stories in the news each week about teen driving tragedies," said DeFazio. If we can get to a couple of kids this Saturday night, I’ll consider the effort worthwhile."

All any Junior or Senior from either high school has to do to be a part of this important night is present a valid school ID card at the track’s ticket booth. "The track is hoping for a complete ‘sell out,’ even if all the tickets for Saturday night are given out free," DeFazio concluded.
